Madi Zins
Poet. Papermaker. Performer.
Sometimes Madi writes poems for other people, on the street, with a typewriter.
Sometimes Madi writes poems for friends and familiars to mark big changes.
Sometimes Madi rolls up her heartsleeves and writes poems for herself.
Always Madi writes poems to ask more questions to the world of her understanding.

About Me.

Hi, I’m Madi! I’m originally from Catonsville, Maryland but I currently live in New Orleans where I use a typewriter to write poems on the streets for anyone who provides a topic.
I’m interested in intersectional, ecofeminist poetics and I try to write poems full of images and themes of nature that are multifaceted and often contradictory.
My poems have been published in Quail Bell Magazine, MUSE Literary Journal, and Antigravity Magazine. My poem “Past Dream Storms” received an honorable mention for the 2023 Holden Vaughn Spangler Award and my poem “On Remembering Hardwoods” was a finalist for the 2023 Poetry Broadside Contest with lmnl lit.
I studied English Literature and Environmental Studies at Washington College. My biggest poetic influences are Lucille Clifton, Joy Harjo, Ross Gay, Mary Oliver, Louise Glück, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

Instant Poems.
I’ve been writing poems on the street for over three years. Countless people have commissioned me to write poems on vastly different topics all across the United States. I have a business based in New Orleans, LA for Instant Poems at events and for poetry commissions called Crescent City Poetry. Here’s a gallery of a few of my favorites…
